We all know our “sign” according to Western astrology. Cancer, Leo, Sagittarius, etc. These are the seasonal signs corresponding to the position of the Sun on the day of our birth.
The Sun spends a month in each sign since it passes through all twelve in the course of a year. The changeover date is around the 21st of each month, so by knowing your date of your birth you know your sign.
Things are not quite as simple in Indian astrology, firstly, because it gives priority to the Moon and not the Sun and, secondly, because it uses what is called a sidereal zodiac. The signs of this zodiac are superposed over constellations, without being subject to the constant shift resulting from the precession of equinoxes. To know your sign in Indian astrology means more or less knowing the constellation the Moon was passing through at the moment of your birth. And that position cannot be deduced merely by knowing your date of birth. It is necessary to have more detailed information and to use other means. nformation and to use other means.
